The Playground Project: A Multigenerational Community Hub
The Playground Project is transforming our standard play area into a vibrant, multigenerational community hub designed to embrace neighbors of all ages and abilities. By re imagining the playground as a holistic environment for physical, social, and emotional wellness, this project moves beyond the traditional model of siloed play. Instead, it serves as an innovative experiment in inter generational place making, specifically tailored to ensure that children with mobility challenges and our senior residents aged 50+ feel completely at home. Our goal is to shift the playground experience from one of passive supervision to one of shared experience, where every member of the community can be an active participant rather than a distant observer. To achieve this, we are adding a partial pour-in-place rubber surface that meanders through the play structures to create a premier destination for the Mount Washington Valley. This thoughtful layout removes the physical barriers that traditionally keep seniors and individuals with disabilities on the sidelines, providing the safety of even surfaces for aging ankles and effortless movement for wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers. From sensory-rich equipment—like the ZipKrooz, which includes a harness bucket seat for extra trunk support—to the seamless flow of the landscape, every element is engineered to ensure the youngest and oldest members of our community can interact safely and comfortably. Beyond physical activity, the Playground Project directly combats social isolation by creating a free, convenient gathering spot linked to nearby accessible parking. By providing a safe space for those with mobility challenges to connect with others, we are fostering a stronger, more inclusive community fabric. This project is more than just a playground; it is a commitment to ensuring that physical limitations never stand in the way of social connection or community belonging. Donations of $100 or more will be honored on a plaque prominently displayed inside our building. Your support is still needed.
